Acer Nitro 5  Gaming Laptop is the brand’s take on a gaming laptop that fits the budget without hindering its performance. Priced at 54,990/-, it would be hard to find a better deal for a laptop that fits into the gaming laptop category.

The Acer Nitro 5 comes in different models with slightly alternating features and prices. This particular review is based on the model Acer nitro 5 AN 515-43. Before jumping into a detailed review, let us take a look at the characteristics of Nitro 5.

Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop Review

First things first, the Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop is definitely one of the best options on the market that fits the gaming laptop category without taking your budget through the roof! The laptop offers a good deal for the price and is easily a great budget laptop that can handle most taxing games without ruining your experience.

Features of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

The Acer Nitro 5 AN, 515-43, comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 processor with model 3550H. There are other variants of processors from both manufacturers, AMD and Intel. They include different versions from Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, and Intel i5 8th gen to i7 10th gen. This variation in processors varies with a price range, of course.

The memory is 8GB of DDR4, upgradeable up to 32GB, and the storage offered is 512GB of solid-state storage(SSD), again upgradable to 2TB of hard disk drive(HDD). The display is a standard 15.6 inches for all models with IPS(In-plane switching) technology. The screen mode is full HD with an LED backlight and a screen resolution of 1920×1080.

With all these features sorted, let us get into the review without much further ado.

CPU and GPU of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

As all laptops go, the processor is one of the most important features you’ll need to consider in your device. The processor is literally the brain behind your laptop and can make or break your experience.

The Ryzen 5 3550his undoubtedly a good processor option considering the price of this laptop. And it sure doesn’t disappoint. The Ryzen 5 was, in fact, aimed at challenging the Intel core i5 processor. It comes with a Quad-core and a processor speed of 2.10GHz and can provide a stutter-free experience.

The graphics card in the laptop impacts a lot more than you may realize. Processing high-end graphics, mapping textures, and rendering polygons requires a lot of work from the graphics card, maybe even more than the processor.

The Nitro 5 comes with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX1650 graphics card and GDDR5 memory technology. The card is capable of hitting upto 60 fps at 1080p medium to high resolution on most games. Though the graphics on the laptop scream “budget laptop,” it definitely does give you a decent experience.

The memory of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

Gaming requires memory to run, and like the case with most GTX 1650 GPU, the Nitro 5 has 8GB standard memory with DDR4 SDRAM technology. DDR4 is a no-brainer choice for a budget gaming laptop. It offers good performance, capacity, build quality, and decent heat dissipation.

Display of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

The Nitro 5 has a full HD 1920×1080 resolution that offers a bright screen and a good gaming display that is colorful and pleasing to the user. That is not to say that there aren’t better display options on laptops, of course. But it does do justice to the budget it comes under, so no qualms there.

Design of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

The Nitro 5 design is not exactly what one would expect in a gaming laptop, or any laptop for that matter. That’s not to say it is all bad either. The keyboard and touchpad sport fancy-looking red outlines and the backlights take the gamer experience a notch higher.

The display hinges decently sturdy and secure as well. What could have been better here is the cheap plastic-like screen lid that is a sign of cutbacks created by the budget. Not to mention the thick bezels that could easily play spoilsport is an avid gamer’s experience.

Keyboard and Trackpad of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

As we outlined above, the keyboard and the trackpad look fancy nonetheless, with red trimmings and a backlight. The keyboard definitely is quite comfortable, though not the best for gaming. It is fast, responsive, and without lags. There were no occurrences of accidental presses or missed presses either. The keys move quite well with that perfect spring and offer a good game controlling movement.

The trackpad, on the other hand, is only averagely okay. Gaming can require a lot of touchpad work, and the Nitro 5 touchpad tends to disappoint on that front a bit. It takes a lot of effort to keep up with even daily tasks on the system, not to mention high-level gaming. This can take a toll on your fingers and even cause finger fatigue for fewer hours than PCs or laptops with better trackpads.

Ports of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

Now Ports are a factor that Nitro 5 hasn’t compromised on at all. There are a good number of ports on the nitro 5 with provisions for everything.

On the left side, there’s a Kensington lock slot, an Rj45 ethernet port, a USB type c port, an HDMI 2.0 port, one 3.0 port, and an SD card slot. The right side features a headphone jack, a power cable jack, and two USB 2.0 ports.

What did I tell you? The ports sure haven’t been compromised on!

Audio of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

The audio on your laptop can just as easily ruin your experience if it doesn’t live up to your expectations. Acer has definitely kept up the audio of the Nitro 5 to give a  decently good effect. Though muddy in some places, the audio is clear enough to be articulate and soft. That, for most games, is the real deal. Especially considering the budget we’re talking about here on Nitro 5.

The battery of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

I need to mention it in my Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop review without fail. The battery is awesome. It goes without saying that battery life can overwhelmingly influence your gaming. You don’t want to be reaching for your power cables every once in a while just as you’re getting into the crux of an exciting game.

The Acer Nitro 5 has a good battery life that isn’t half as bad for most laptops. It lasts an average of 4 hours which is better than most budget laptops in that range. The Intel variation does last longer, though, if you are considering that an option.

The cooling system of the Acer NITRO 5 Gaming Laptop

Gaming laptops do dissipate a lot of heat; no surprises there. The Acer Nitro 5 has a dual-fan cooling system, one of the laptop’s more desirable features. These can be found at the laptop’s rear end and aren’t as loud as many other laptops, something that users will definitely appreciate.

Acer’s Nitro Sense software also provides customization options to increase the fan speed for both CPU and GPU. It also offers the Coolboost option that maximizes fan speed for some heavy-duty gaming!

Final Thoughts

Done with the Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop review. The Acer Nitro 5 is certainly a good option for anybody new to gaming or for when there is no extensive requirement. It also is a great choice for budget buyers who do not want to stretch their budget but still get a decent experience.

If you’re a hardcore gamer with an eye for the details and specifications, then the Acer nitro 5 gaming laptop review may disappoint more than enhance your gaming. You can also deal with the other gaming laptops listed on the site.
