Lenovo Legion 5i Gaming Laptop Review

Without any further adieu, let us indulge in the Lenovo Legion 5i Gaming Laptop review and the final verdict.

Specifications

The Lenovo Legion 5i  gaming laptop comes with a screen size of 15.6 inches and a processor like Intel Core i7 10750 H. The speed of the processor is 2.6 GHz and allows you to store up to 1 TB. While speaking about the RAM, it offers you 16 GB, and there is an IPS panel technology for display.

The screen refresh rate is about 144 Hz which is common, and there is 6 GB of graphics memory for you. The laptop comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 and weighs about 5.42 lbs. It uses an SSD-type boot drive as the modern laptops.

The dimensions of the Legion 5i, as measured, are 0.93 by 14.3 by 10.22 inches and uses a Windows 10 home screen, as we all know. The resolution for displaying the pictures is 1920 by 1080. Lenovo also provides a Bluetooth connection and wireless networking facility.

You can always search the budget price while searching for Lenovo laptops. Here also, the Legion 5i models range from Rs 67 000 to Rs 1 lakh. Moreover, Lenovo is one of the brands that always updates its upcoming models with the latest Intel processors.

Design

Lenovo continues to provide the same design for the Legion series laptops, and it is not a bad thing to consider. Legion offers the inspirational clamshell form factor and is useful for gamers especially. The 5i uses the same plastic shell, which is good for durability.

The Legion logo’s trademarks are on edge, and the markings for the ports are at the backside. The Legion device comes in a bulky proportion rather than the modern thin laptops. It is a thick device with angular bulges and large vents.

Lenovo Legion 5i Gaming Laptop Review

The Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop offers the best cooling system, a greater advantage for gamers. However, you cannot carry the laptop with you as it is heavy, about 2.3 kgs. There is a firm hinge in action to make the laptop steady at an angle.

As it is a big display, it offers enough space to use the QWERTY keyboard, and there is a spacious trackpad that lets you move easily through the screen. The Legion 5i gaming laptop keyboard seems to be very comfortable and makes an awesome typing experience.

When you look for connectivity, the Legion 5i covered all the expectations of the gamers. You can find USB A 3.1 port at the edge of the device, an HDMI port 2.0, an RJ45 ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm earphone jack. Unfortunately, there is no SD card slot, but you can still use this for photo and video editing.

Display

Lenovo aims to make the device affordable and compromises the display feature. The display will be good and average for most game players. The laptop color gamut is 45 percent and is an average rate. The rate is not the best t nowadays, and other laptops have offered higher rates.

Compared to the Dell XPS 15, my Legion 5i is displayed as somewhat dull. The brightness levels are decent when the viewing angles are wide. The refresh rate of 120 Hz makes the visualization effects smoother and better. But it is affordable for the price range it comes.

Additionally, you can upgrade to an LCD panel with 100 percent RGB colors. One useful feature is the webcam shutter that helps more in privacy while playing games. Webcam quality is not up to the level as we need it now for work from home.

Battery life

In my Lenovo Legion 5i Gaming laptop review, I would never miss out on the battery phase. The Legion 5i 2021 comes with a 60Wh battery capacity, and the brand claims to have a life of up to 6.8 hours. But as my personal experience, I got 5 hours after working with my office documents, 7 to 9 chrome tabs, streaming playlist background, and video calls at times.

Also, note that I did not use battery saver mode as I have used the above activities. Using the battery power alone for games is good and decent, but there is a drop in the frame rates. I ran out of battery after one hour at one time when I played F1.

But Legion 5i can be used as a daily driver, and it overtook the competitors. I did the battery rundown test for this laptop with my friends. After a full charge, we set the machine in power save mode and looped a locally stored video with screen brightness at 50 percent and volume at 100 percent until the system quits. In this test, Legion 5i stands for 8 hours and 55 minutes, far better than others.

Performance

The Nvidia graphics card is helpful to run even the most recent games and also with better quality. Well, with the medium graphics and resolution toned down to play watchdogs. I experienced a decent frame rate between 30 fps to 50 fps.

Further, the older games like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption work well and smoother in high settings. And also, I have altered the settings to maintain the frame rates. Codemaster F1 went in ultra-high settings with 1080p resolution with frame rates 70 fps was an average.

Thermal performance

Speaking about the thermal feature, the device shows great performance. The laptop showed a maximum of 90 degrees celsius while running Valhalla, and it is more than one hour.  In some cases, I felt a drop in the frame rates that extends more than 2 hours.

The passive cooling arrangements help to lower the temperature, and then the performance is normal and regular.

Audio and input performance

The audio quality through the speakers rated at 2W is enough for most activities. The quality is flat, good, and lacking in the low end, similar to most other laptops in this price range. I used speakers and headphones to get better experiences for enjoying the music.

The keyboard is awesome and very comfortable for typing. I used to write my daily stories, and there are fewer mistyping only. The trackpad is well and able to move around quickly to make the official tasks so easy.  Personally, I think there are no other manufacturers who provide such an excellent keyboard and trackpad.

Now, continuing the Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop review, let us discuss the Pros and Cons.

  • Offers mind-blowing performance

Why do we recommend Lenovo Legion 5i Gaming Laptop?

From my Lenovo Legion 5i Gaming laptop review, I  would say that it is a better all-rounder for you at a reasonable price. There are plenty of options to love, from the design to the gaming performance. There is a better keyboard, and the webcam placement is more attractive.

The GPU matches the performance of the previous Legion laptops. The device does not come with a slim design, but it is well made and contains advanced features to enjoy.

Moreover, it contains a super processor with better values for the users than before. Hence, this laptop is unbeatable in the mid-range and premium for gaming purposes. It delivers more power in high-end games and is strongly favorable.
